About VLC media player
VLC media player is a highly portable
multimedia player for various audio and video
formats (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg, ...) as well
as DVDs, VCDs, and various
streaming protocols.
It can also be used as a
server to stream in unicast or
multicast in IPv4 or
IPv6 on a high-bandwidth network.
It doesn't need any external codec or program to work.

Once again, The VideoLAN Team got a booth at LinuxTAG (June 24 to June 27) in Berlin, Germany. Come around and meet us in hall 7.2a at booth 105. Have a look at the latest and greatest features and see the people behind the cone.
VLC 1.0.0 approaches!

Thanks to the continuous efforts made by the developers and the community, the new version of the award-winning VLC media player, numbered 1.0.0, is approaching the end of development.
The release will very likely happen next week.
We would like to thank all the people involved with it.

At the same time, the VideoLAN project is glad to announce that the fourth release candidate (and hopefully last!) of the Goldeneye version of VLC, numbered 1.0.0-rc4 is out.
Source tarballs are ready, but binaries should follow very soon on our main website.
